Just add water

That’s what my sister’s been calling this wraparound jacket – it’s virtually an ‘insta-sweater’. I’ve been knitting it for only a week and am just one front piece away from being able to start seaming:

It’s been so long since I’ve knitted on 10mm needles that I’d forgotten how fast they really are. Lickety split. In fact, I’d have probably been finished all of the knitting on this if I hadn’t finally given in to temptation and cast on for something else this weekend:

Check out that deep, rich purple, man. MMMM. Gimme some. That’s Apple Pie Apple Laine sock yarn in ‘aubergine’. I sure hope 4 skeins’ll be enough for a pair, because that’s how much I’ve got, and it looks like my source is currently out of stock of that colour. I just couldn’t wait any longer. I was so excited to come home and start knitting on it again – so far I’m only just past the lace cuff and have started on the k1 p1 ribbing that’ll snug up underneath the cuff. I’ve had the yarn in my stash since February and I’ve had the ‘Folk Socks’ book to stare at for almost as long, and I simply had to cast on. So what if this breaks my new ‘only 2 WIPs at once’ rule, I’m almost done that 10mm cardi, right? Right. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. The cuff looks great- I am working the same pattern in a similar color and I am loving it almost as much as Heather, who is a whole sock ahead of me!

  2. Looks lovely, what awesome socks! I am always so impressed with your sock adventures! (I just knit very plain ones).

    Here’s to instant knitting gratification!

(do socks count? I mean if sock yarn doesn’t count as stash… but those ones are pretty intense… so maybe stuff on 8mm or over doesn’t count…)

  3. those are some big needles! I find when I go from socks to anything of any size, I have to re-adjust my hands and get used to them! the pink is very pretty….

  4. Ooh – both projects look great and I’m impressed you held out against the Apple Pie for that long!

I’m finding I have to knit what I feel like at the time or else I just spend more time blogging and buying yarn – faithfulness and dedication to one or two projects is not for me ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Oh look, there are those socks we’ve been talking about. I love the color. You can see the pattern really well, despite mohair halo.

  6. Very pretty pink yarn on the big needles and oh my goodness…well, make that oh YOUR goodness, that sock yarn, mmmm, and the sock cuff is beyond lovely!

  7. That’s a gorgeous purple! What’s the sock pattern?

  8. I really, really love the pink of your Patons. So pretty! I can’t wait to see FO photos.

  9. I love both projects! and both shades! When did you sneak in the wraparound? I’m very impressed…

Knitting on large needles is great for fairly instant gratification, though I must admit, I’m always glad to get back to smaller ones…
