Previously, I had thought that the worst knitterly circumstances one could get into would be to be without knitting altogether. I no longer believe this to be true.

The most unfortunate thing for a knitter, is when you settle in for your 45+ minute bus ride at the beginning of your day, remove your knitting pouch from your bag, pull out the sock…and discover it holds only 3 DPNs, not 4. The thing worse than having no knitting with you at all, I am here to say…

…Is having your knitting with you, and being completely unable to knit it. How much longer until I get to go home at the end of the day?

  1. Yes, that is upsetting. Is there a yarn shop near where you work? You could go at lunch time. 🙂

  2. Been there…feel your pain.

  4. Nooooooooooo

That exact thing just happened to me the other day! I got home from work somehow with only one of my two knitting needles…. I had a whole evening stretching ahead of me and no idea WHAT I had done with the other one…. Fortunately, someone had put it on my desk when I got back to work the next day! Thanks GOODNESS that it wasn’t a weekend!!!

  6. Ohhh! That’s the worst! Last week I was knitting on the way to work, pulled out my knitting at lunch and found not 2 size four straights but, sadly only one. Curses! Left on the train…

  7. Sucks. I’m bored too but don’t have any knitting.

  8. Where are you, and what size do you need. We are nothing if not a network… surely someone can rescue you!

  9. Like someone else said: noooooooooooo… I hope you’re now at home and enjoying the weekend!

  10. What’s a little worse is not realizing you’re using the wrong size and get home and have to rip out 3″ of ribbing 😦

Awful, but 45 minutes of nothing? I think I am going to figure out a way of tubeknitting a sock with only three needles when I find 45 minutes this weekend free to use for just that. Maybe awkward, but must be possible by juggling the not used needle out of the way. Anybody out there game too?

  12. It’s kind of like being a crack addict only with knitting. My hubby always said I am addicted.

I’d have gone to the store on my lunch, too. That’s why I have so many sets of needles the same size. That and having several projects to jump back and forth between.

    Addicted and proud of it!

  13. Maybe you want to switch to knitting on 5 DPNs, so if you lose or forget one you can carry on with 4… 🙂

  14. omg how drastic and you must have been so bored I have had something like that happen too I feel for you

This kind of thing happened to me ONCE, since then I always carry an extra needle in my emergency-carry-on-knitting bag. Sometimes I even take an extra knitting project, just in case ….

Yes yes yes yes yes! I’ve been there!!! It’s awful. To top it off, my Blackberry was dead so I couldn’t even text or play games, either!

I think I need to carry emergency knitting at ALL TIMES. Some brightly-colored sock yarn and an extra set of needles.

::shudder:: at the thought of being knitting-less.

  17. I carry an emergency back-up, plain vanilla, sock-in-progress in my purse at all times. Then if the main project I have with me has some hiccup that prevents me from working on it, I still have peace and comfort at my fingertips.

  18. Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, along with the excellent reviews some other people have written, can help you decide if it is the right choice for you.
